Visiting the Palisades Fire sites

During our recent trip to Los Angeles to deliver journals to hundreds of kids who were impacted by the recent wildfires in the LA area, we had the chance to visit the Palisades fire site along with photojournalist Michaela Vatcheva who is writing a story about our work. The experience of seeing the vast destruction of schools and homes was disorienting, not to mention the extreme headaches that set in within an hour of being there. The sights, sounds, and smells were a visceral reminder of our own experience with fire - although since we never visited our own burned down home until it was actually under rebuilding construction, this was the first time we actually set foot into a major burn site. It was overwhelming. We are so glad that we can be here to do our small part to help with this recovery.
